From our outstanding youth development programs to adult leagues; with convenient access to every sport imaginable at the amateur and professional levels. Whether it's archery at the Massena Rod & Gun Club, year-round youth hockey programs, AYSO soccer, competitive synchronized ice skating, gymnastics, soccer, football, Little League, martial arts, softball, basketball, All-American Soap Box Derby racing or lacrosse -- you'll find the ideal sports program for tikes to teens. Information about current programs is generally announced through the local media and/or distributed through the community schools.
Massena has hoisted its fair share of Section and State Championship banners to the rafters of our arenas and gyms. Massena teens can join a varsity or junior varsity squad in a variety of sports with long-standing traditions of Red Raider pride! Teams include hockey, golf, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, football, track / indoor track, softball, swimming, volleyball, wrestling and cross-country. In addition to district sports programs, there are numerous intramural sports opportunities, modified sports teams (for junior high-aged students) and teen/youth leagues.
There are many different adult leagues in Massena: softball, volleyball, broomball, hockey, basketball and bowling to name a few. Don't blink or you might miss some of the most exciting ECAC Division I College Hockey at Clarkson and St. Lawrence Universities. You'll especially want to line up early when the two teams go head-to-head -- always a sell-out and the most exciting hockey you'll find anywhere! Get your name on the list for some season tickets or enjoy a game whenever you can with just a short North Country drive from the heart of Massena. Joining Clarkson and St. Lawrence in offering outstanding collegiate sports are the Potsdam State Bears and Canton NorthStars -- also within a short drive. Within a 90-minute scenic drive, you can be in the heart of beautiful
Lake Placid -- the home of the 1980 and 1932 Winter Olympics and the site
of the U.S. Olympic
Training Center. The training center opened
in Lake Placid in November of 1982, the present facility opened in 1989.
The purpose of the training center is to assist athletes in a variety
of Olympic sports. The center also provides assistance to a number of
affiliated sports organizations and disabled sports organizations.
Want a taste of professional sports? Within 90-minutes, you can attend NHL hockey games at either the home of the Ottawa Senators' or Montreal Canadiens; enjoy an afternoon Triple A baseball game at the Ottawa Linx; or, take in an Ottawa Renegades CFL football game. A great day trip can get you into Yankee Stadium, the Meadowlands to see the Jets or Giants, Buffalo to catch a Bills' football game or a Sabres' NHL clash, or Manhattan to visit "the Garden" for professional basketball and hockey.
