Town of Massena Clerk's Office

The Massena Town Clerk is an elected position and is responsible under State Law for maintaining the custody of all public records for the Town. The Clerk issues various licenses and permits (including burning, hunting, fishing, dog, building, certificate of occupancy, going out of business, games of chance, bingo and marriage licenses). On behalf of the State and the Town she is also responsible for maintaining other legal documents such as, manuscripts, books, minutes of board meetings and vital statistics.

Vital records (birth, death and marriages) may be obtained in person, by mail or online at www.vitalchek.com with a credit card for the individual born in the Village or Town of Massena. You will need photo identification to get a vital record. if you are someone other than the individual the record is on, please call us to see if you need to provide additional info. A parent of the child on a birth certificate is elgible to get a child's birth record with proper id.

WWW.vitalchek.com - Credit card must be in your name for your record or your child's record. Please click on birth/death/marriage, click on New york, put Massena, St.Lawrence Co.. You will need to make a copy of the last screen on-line, and either fax to 315-769-7957 or email to townclerk@town.massena.ny.us a copy of your driver's license. (note- if faxing , enlarge the copy of your id). the fee is $16 via regular mail, $33 next business day.

By mail, please send a written notarized request with a photocopy of your current id (driver's license). Include your birth info, name, date of birth, parents names (include mother's maiden name) and the purpose why you require the document, mailing address & ph #. A fee of $10 payable to Town Clerk by ceritified bank check or money order.

Geneology Searches, please send a written request with all possible info, regarding dates, possible spelling of name, any parent info. There is a $22 fee for a search of a three year period per record. A ceritified bank check or money order must accompany request, made payable to Town clerk

The Town Clerk also helps in the coordination of all Primary and General Elections. In Massena, the Town Clerk is appointed as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for both the Town and Village of Massena. The Clerk’s office issues birth and death certificates for individuals who are born or die in Massena.
